Think of a virtual machine as a stand-alone computer on your Mac. It behaves as if it has a Pentium processor (though the Intel chip inside the Mac is something different). It works best on Macs with a lot of memory — Parallels recommends at least 1 gigabyte — because the software can put a strain on the system.Parallels does more than just Windows. It works with Linux, OS/2, MS-DOS and other operating systems. You choose a guest operating system during installation.
In most cases, you’ll have to buy a new copy of Windows (not an upgrade) and activate or authorize the software online or over the phone. It’s Microsoft’s way of making sure your copy of Windows is legit. The XP Pro version I used for testing cost $300. Ouch. However, if you already have a version of Windows loaded on the Mac and are using Boot Camp, you need not reinstall it for Parallels. Microsoft will make you reactivate, however, since it now thinks you are running Windows on a different computer.

Today, I made a tough decision from the perspective of my wallet and my soul (sorry if this sounds too deep). I dropped my Con Law II. I would like to say I am that “Rocky” kind of law student, that never gives in and never quits, but I can’t today.
I have no one to blame but myself, but I packed a pretty heavy course-load this semester with BA and Evidence both. (each 4 credit hours). Nevertheless, I think this was the best call for me or at least I keep telling myself that. This is the first class since my freshman year in undergraduate that I have dropped. So my question is, what does the “w” really stand for? Withdrawal, can’t take the heat, or simply that this “Was the best decision for me and ultimately my GPA which tend to be all that employers are looking at these days.
Update: I just spoke to a professor in which I have the utmost respect in his opinions and guidance. He told me essentially to not let the drop determine the person I am. Fear of quitting is a societal restraint and it shouldn’t have much bearing in the ultimate decision I make.
Hey, I am a strong student, not a slacker, my lonely wife can attest to that. So I am not a quitter, just a time reallocator.
